Aavishkar 2K26: Model Making Competition Organized By Civil Engineering Association

The Civil Engineering Association (CEA) of the Department of Civil Engineering, Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science (KITS), Ramtek, successfully organized Aavishkar 2K26, a model-making and competition and exhibition, centered on the theme “Waste to Best,” linked with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The exhibition saw an overwhelming response, featuring 30 groups and 150 participants across various disciplines. While the Civil Engineering Department led the initiative with 21 groups, the event's interdisciplinary appeal was highlighted by participation from Department of Applied Science (5 groups), Electronics & Communication Engineering (1 group), Mechanical Engineering (1 group), and Computer Technology (1 group).
The event was graced by an esteemed panel of leadership who shared their insights on sustainable engineering:
Hon’ble Chief Guest, Sri. V. Srinivasa Rao (Secretary, Vodithala Education Society): In his address, he lauded the students for their ingenuity and emphasized the global urgency for sustainable waste management and the conversion of "waste to Best."
Dr. Avinash N. Shrikhande (Principal, KITS Ramtek): He spoke on the importance of extracurricular engagement in shaping well-rounded engineers and thanked the management for facilitating such platforms.
Dr. Pankaj Ashtankar, Dean (Student Activity): He highlighted the role of teamwork and creative thinking in solving real-world technical challenges.
Dr. Anant Dabhade (Head of Civil Engineering Department): He addressed the gathering on the technical relevance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the department's commitment to it.
Students showcased working models crafted entirely from discarded materials. The projects specifically targeted goals such as Responsible Consumption, Climate Action, and Sustainable Cities. Among the highlights were the “Walking Bots” and several other sophisticated prototypes that demonstrated how "trash" can be engineered into functional solutions.
Models were evaluated by a panel of judges based on creativity, technical execution, and relevance to the theme. The following prizes were distributed: First, Second, and Third Prizes for top-tier innovation. Fourth Prize and one Consolation Prize for exceptional effort.
Mr. Anuj Sakhare, President of the CEA, formally presented the comprehensive event report, while Mr. Vivek Kubhare, Faculty In-Charge, delivered the briefing and vote of thanks. Participants expressed that the exhibition was a transformative experience, enhancing their understanding of practical, eco-friendly engineering.
Aavishkar 2K26 inspired students to think innovatively and reinforced the message that small ideas, when nurtured with creativity and responsibility, can lead to impactful solutions for a sustainable future.
The management commended the Civil Engineering Association for their seamless coordination, noting that Aavishkar 2K26 successfully reinforced a vital message: small, creative ideas can lead to massive impacts for a sustainable future.
The program concluded with acknowledgements to Sri V. Srinivasa Rao, Hon’ble Secretary, Vodithala Education Society, Hyderabad, for his continuous support, and to Dr. Avinash N. Shrikhande, Principal, KITS Ramtek, for his guidance in facilitating extracurricular activities at the institute.
